Russia to spend 1 bln rbl in 2016 on floating nuke in Chukotka
VLADIVOSTOK, Mar 23 (PRIME) -- Russia plans to spend 1 billion rubles from the budget in 2016 to build a floating nuclear heat and power plant Akademik Lomonosov in the Chukotka Autonomous District, the district’s government said in a statement Wednesday.
Akademik Lomonosov’s projected capacity is up to 70 megawatts (MW), and its launch is planned for 2019. The plant is to replace a 48 MW Bilibino nuclear power plant, the world’s only nuclear power plant operating in the permafrost zone. The Bilibino plant will be pulled out of exploitation in 2021 due to depleted resources of nuclear power units.
